Minister Nufi welcomes the Chief of Staff of North Macedonia, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the field of defense and security

Minister of Defense, Mr. Ermal Nufi hosted today the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of North Macedonia, Major General Sashko Lafchiski.

During the meeting, the importance of close cooperation for Corridor VIII was underlined, as a critical step for military mobility and security in the Western Balkans.

The parties also appreciated that the two countries have good neighborly relations and, as NATO allies, are committed to maintaining peace, stability and security in the Western Balkans and throughout the European continent.

Defense Minister Nufi, referring to the complex security environment and the challenges of the time, emphasized the need for further strengthening of military cooperation between the Armed Forces of Albania and those of North Macedonia, as he added that Albania stands firmly side by side with its allies and strategic partners.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that both countries continue to actively contribute to regional security initiatives and support NATO’s strategic objectives, while it was emphasized that close regional cooperation remains essential for the stability of the Western Balkans.

The parties discussed the contribution of significant personnel to the European Union mission EUFOR ALTHEA, as well as to the NATO mission, KFOR, which remains a key pillar for stability, security and prosperity in Kosovo and throughout our region.

Currently, Albania and North Macedonia cooperate closely within NATO through regional initiatives such as SEDM/SEEBRIG, the US-Adriatic Charter (A-5) initiative, etc.
