Among the hospitality, generosity, humanity, but also the many difficulties that the people of Kosovo went through with the inhabitants of Kukës in the three months of the spring of 1999, June 12 and 13 would mark one of the culminating events: the liberation of Kosovo.
After the entry of NATO troops from Han i Elezit on June 12, a day later, on June 13, German military troops, included in KFOR, passed through the city of Kukes towards the border point of Morin. Citizens and former soldiers remember that day with great emotion.
“NATO troops entered Kosovo 27 years ago. I have accompanied them and it is an unimaginable day“, recalls a citizen.
“NATO’s intervention was an extremely good strategy, which also gave Kosovo independence“, says another.
They describe as a dream the moment when they set foot on the land of Kosovo for the first time.
“We cried a thousand, we stepped on that land because the land was ours“, says a citizen.
“Going there for the first time was a tremendous pleasure. To be honest, it seemed like a dream“, says a citizen.
The entry of military infantry troops into Kosovo, within the framework of KFOR, came as a result of the Kumanovo agreement of June 9, after a more than 70-day aerial bombardment campaign on the military infrastructure and equipment of the Serbian army positioned in Kosovo.
