“The United Arab Emirates strongly rejects reports published by certain international media that claim that the UAE transferred money to Iran, including three billion dollars,” the UAE Foreign Ministry said on the X network on Saturday night.
“No frozen Iranian funds have been released, transferred or brokered through the UAE,” the Emirati diplomacy added, adding that the report is “completely false and unfounded.”
She also called on all media to base their news on official sources and not to publish unverified information.
The Reuters agency reported on Friday, citing its anonymous sources, that the UAE transferred three billion dollars to Iran, with the condition that it would stop attacking the UAE with missiles and drones. Earlier this week, reports emerged that Emirati officials traveled to Iran after representatives of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards visited the Emirates earlier.
This week, the security representatives of the Emirates and Iran met for the first time in direct negotiations, Bloomberg reported. She described the meeting as an important turning point, because the Emirates took the toughest stance against Iran and attacked its territory. The aim of the meeting was to de-escalate mutual tensions.
In this context, it is mentioned that during the last Iranian attacks, drones and missiles were not aimed at the Emirates, even though they were their most frequent target until then. This week they flew to Kuwait, where they damaged the airport, Bahrain and Jordan.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that this weekend the US could sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran, which is a preliminary step to a peace agreement.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, which they justified by concerns about their security and an effort to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. A truce has been in effect since April 8, but both sides are violating it. The fact that the signing of the memorandum is close was also confirmed by Iran and Pakistan, which mediates the agreement.
