Young Albanians are protesting today in Skopje for the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language

Young people from North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and other Albanian countries are expected to gather this afternoon in Skopje to protest against the non-fulfillment of the request of the Albanian students of North Macedonia to hold the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language.

Under the motto “Join the Students, All One”, the protest of Albanian students will be held in front of the Stone Bridge in Skopje, starting from 16:30 this Monday. “Together in front of the Stone Bridge for our language”, is written in a student announcement, which highlights the importance of protecting the use of the Albanian language in professional and institutional processes in the country.

This Monday’s protest comes after the one held at the beginning of April by the Albanian students of North Macedonia, who demanded respect for the law on languages in the conduct of the jurisprudence exam that continued to be held in the Macedonian language, despite the official status of the Albanian language in the country.

According to the students, holding the jurisprudence exam in the Macedonian language, which is necessary for exercising professions as a lawyer, judge or prosecutor, creates difficulties for Albanian candidates, and inequality as it affects the representation of Albanians in the country’s judicial system.
