Two days after his death, fans from all over the world are mourning, a place of worship was created in front of the CasaSur hotel. The Argentine police have now published the recording of the crisis line call from the tragic evening.
On the audio recording, you can hear the worker asking for the police and paramedics to be sent to the scene: “When he is in his right mind, he destroys the whole room. We need you to send someone here,” said the worker. During the call, he also expressed concern about the singer’s safety. “He has a room with a balcony and we are a little afraid that he will not do something that will endanger his life,” he said.
When the police arrived, the hotel manager reported hearing a loud bang from the hotel courtyard. The officers soon found out that the singer had fallen from the balcony of his room. The rescue service workers were no longer able to help him.
“Everything indicates that the musician was alone at the time of the fall and had a seizure due to the use of addictive substances,” reports the El Mundo server, citing a statement from the police. Among other things, over-the-counter medications and anxiety medications were scattered in the room. In the courtyard of the hotel, detectives found a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a mobile phone.

She also confirmed the finding of alcohol and drugs in the blood, after which the police said that Payne could have fallen in a state of partial or complete unconsciousness. They found a mess and broken furniture in his hotel room.
Payne struggled with substance abuse for several years. He admitted to using it in the Diary of a CEO podcast in 2021, the New York Post reports. “How low am I? You’d never know it. I can hide it very well,” he told the moderator. In July 2023, the singer began a one-hundred-day treatment at a medical facility in Louisiana, writes The Mirror.

Six years later, the group broke up and Payne released his solo album. He postponed the release of the second album because of his problems.
Payne came to Buenos Aires to visit his former colleague from One Direction, Niall Horan. The criminal police are still investigating the circumstances of his death, but according to them, the involvement of another person in the incident is unlikely.
