‘OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE EDİRNE THE HEALTH CENTER OF THE BALKANS’
Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu visited Edirne Governorship after the AK Party congress. Memişoğlu, who was welcomed by Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer, AK Party Edirne Deputy Fatma Aksal, CHP Edirne Deputy Baran Yazgan, CHP Mayor Filiz Gencan Akın and representatives of political parties, institutions and organizations, made statements after his visit. Stating that Edirne is an important city that served as the capital of the Ottoman Empire, Memişoğlu said, “Today, we are in Edirne, our Serhat city. The capital of the Ottoman Empire, one of the most important cities of our culture. We are the guests of our esteemed governor, member of parliament and president in Edirne. We will evaluate the health services here.” , How can we do better? What can we do? As you know, Trakya University Faculty of Medicine is a medical faculty with a long history and health services. We will evaluate these together. Our goal is to make Edirne the health center of the Balkans. We have set goals for this, I hope we will achieve it. We have a system and manpower that provides the best health care in the world for 22 years. “We have come to good places, it will be even better. As we always say, we will produce not only the services of health but also the science of it. We are traveling around our cities within the scope of the Healthy Turkey Century program and seeing what we can do,” he said.
‘NORMAL BIRTH SHOULD BE PREFERRED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A MIDWIFE’
Stating that the fertility rates in Turkey have decreased, Minister Memişoğlu touched upon the work they have done on this issue and said, “We are trying to make midwives more effective in this regard, especially due to the decrease in our fertility rate, unfortunately, surgery such as cesarean section is very preferred. Today, as you know, we are working especially on the education of expectant mothers.” We have published another legislation. Thus, we always state that birth is normal, natural is normal birth, and that it is the midwives who follow this normal process, that normal birth should be preferred under the supervision of the midwife, this is the priority. We think it should be because, unfortunately, we need to reduce our rate of primary cesarean section, which is over 50 percent today, to 15 percent recommended by the World Health Organization. We see this as a must for both maternal health, baby health and the development of society in this regard. ” he said.
‘WE ARE WORKING TO RELIEVE APPOINTMENT PROBLEMS’
Stating that they will make the system functional that will provide relief regarding appointments throughout the country within 2-3 months, Memişoğlu said, “In addition, our work continues, especially regarding appointments. We still have problems in some branches. In 2-3 months, we will both relieve appointments and We are working on making our system more functional. Hopefully, we will share this with the public and minimize appointment problems within two or three months. In addition, we are working on changes in legislation, especially for healthcare professionals. “We will share it with the public. We would like to thank Edirne, our beautiful city, for hosting us and for their heartfelt hospitality,” he said.
After his visit to the Governorship, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu attended the evaluation meeting at Sultan 1st Murat State Hospital and visited the Sultan 2nd Beyazıt Social Complex Health Museum. Minister Memişoğlu then left the city.
