Two survivors. 179 people died after the plane’s failed landing maneuver in South Korea

According to the AP agency, the Boeing 737-800 (flight number 2216) returning from Bangkok, Thailand had problems with the landing gear, which did not extend, which is also evident from the footage that began to spread on social networks.

The Jonhap agency later stated that the cause of the technical failure of the plane’s undercarriage could be a collision with a bird, which occurred, according to as yet unconfirmed information, shortly before landing. However, this is only one of the investigative versions of the crash.

After leaving the runway, the machine hit a fence, exploded and caught fire. The airport canceled all domestic and international flights.

“According to our information, there was no Czech citizen on board,” Daniel Drake, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Novinka on Sunday night. The Jonhap agency talks about “a large number of victims” and specified that only South Korean citizens were traveling on the plane in addition to the two Thais.

The accident occurred at 09:07 local time (01:07 CET). A rescue operation is underway at the site, the firefighters, in cooperation with the paramedics, are trying to get the surviving passengers out of the burning plane. The third (highest) level of alarm was announced.

At least two people were rescued from the wreckage of the plane, the Johnap agency specified later.

Thick black smoke rising from the plane could be seen from a great distance, the debris after the explosion lies far from the fuselage.

A spokesman for the airline told Reuters that the company was investigating reports of the incident. Jeju Air later apologized on social media.
