The Government Commission for Missing Persons in Kosovo has announced two new identifications of persons missing during the war, clarifying that the cases are not related to the recent exhumations in Zubin Potok or the locations addressed during this year.
According to the Commission’s announcement, two DNA reports were received last week, through which the mortal remains of two persons who disappeared during the war were identified.
“The Governmental Commission for Missing Persons announces that last week two DNA reports were received for the identification of the remains of two persons who disappeared during the war. We clarify that these two identifications are not related to the exhumations in Kalludër and Jabukë, nor to the recent developments in Zubin Potok, nor to any other location addressed during this year”, the announcement states.
The commission clarifies that the identifications are the result of a detailed re-examination of the remains located in the morgue of the Institute for Forensic Medicine, as well as the collection of complementary reference biological samples from the family members of the missing persons.
“So, it is a matter of mortal remains exhumed earlier, and not during the last activities in the field”, the Commission emphasizes.
The DNA reports have been forwarded to the Institute for Forensic Medicine, which, after performing the relevant verifications, officially confirms the identification.
According to the Commission, during this week the families of the identified persons will be notified of the results and next steps, in accordance with the relevant procedures.
The Governmental Commission for Missing Persons has reiterated its commitment to clarifying the fate of persons who disappeared by force during the war in Kosovo, stressing the importance of respecting families and their right to know the truth.
