Trump announced the dispatch of 5,000 soldiers to Poland. A week after the deployment of the brigade there was cancelled

“Following the successful election of the current Polish president, Karol Nawrocký (the elections were held in 2025, note red.), whom I have proudly supported, and based on our relationship with him, I am honored to announce that the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland. Thank you for your attention! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the US president wrote on the Truth Social social network on Thursday.

It is not clear which units he specifically means. Last Wednesday, out of the blue, the US Department of Defense abruptly canceled the planned deployment of more than 4,000 soldiers from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry in Poland.

The decision of US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth surprised European NATO allies. Subsequently, the Pentagon announced that it intends to reduce its military presence in Europe and will withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany alone.

The Ministry of Defense and the White House have not yet commented on Trump’s statement.

The USA has roughly 80,000 soldiers in Europe, reports Axios. About 10,000 of them are located in Poland.
