A serious event has shocked Montenegro, where Russian citizen Mikhail Shabunin (30 years old), suspected of being the perpetrator of a triple murder at a shooting range in Danilovgrad, committed suicide after an extensive search operation by law enforcement in Herceg Novi.
The serious crime was recorded yesterday, around 16:45, at the “Češka zbrojevka” shooting range. The victims were three employees of this business: Petar Globarević (24 years old) and Nemanja Kapor (20 years old) from Podgorica, as well as Momir Radonjić (67 years old) from Danilovgrad.
According to the data from the preliminary investigation, the suspect first shot the instructor Globarević with several bullets, including one in the head, and then went to the gun rental area where he killed the other two employees. It is learned that the owner of the training ground, who was sleeping in another room, managed to survive the attack.
After the massacre, Shabunin stole the vehicle of one of the victims, a black “Seat Cordoba”, with which he left towards the area of Rogam in Podgorica, to continue his escape with a taxi in the direction of Herceg Novi.
A large-scale operation involving the Special Police Unit, the “South” Regional Security Center, the Border Police Sector, the National Security Agency (ANB), as well as a helicopter of the Montenegrin Army was launched for his capture. The author was located around 03:35 this morning in the forest above the Topla settlement.
The Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, confirmed the end of the operation by stating:
“They found and isolated the killer in the forest above the settlement of Topla – a triple murderer who opened fire at the moment of his arrest and then shot himself in the head.”
The end of the crisis situation was also confirmed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Šaranović. Meanwhile, the Police Directorate, after expressing its condolences to the families of the victims, announced that in cooperation with the High State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, investigations are continuing to fully clarify the circumstances and motives that led to this tragic event.
