LDK failed to ensure complete unity around the candidacy of Bekim Sejdi for the head of state.
After the meeting of the parliamentary group, the chairman of the subject, Lumir Abdixhiku, confirmed that six deputies have voted against the proposal.
Abdixhiku emphasized that the leadership of the party had unanimously approved Sejdi’s candidacy, describing him as a prominent figure of Rugovite who has served with dignity.
However, the call to MPs to support him was not respected by all.
“Bekim Sejdiu was known as an exceptional rugovist. As a man who worked with dignity. Unanimously, the entire presidency voted for the candidacy of Professor Dr. Bekim Sejdi. Immediately after this meeting, we invited LDK MPs to support him.
With great regret, 6 deputies of the LDK have decided against the decision. At this stage, I think they harm the whole process and in this way send the country to extraordinary elections.
Any pair of choices that are caused because of this will be consequential. At this stage the statement is about the figure. I have the impression that any name we would bring would have such a reaction”, he emphasized.
He added that their statement was related to the figure of the candidate and that, according to him, any other name that would be proposed would have the same reaction.
The MPs who voted against are: Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri.
