Trialog – Xhavit Haliti talks about local elections in Kosovo: PDK does not rule out coalitions in the runoff, the decision after political analysis

Haliti praised the organization of opposition parties in the first round of elections, stressing that post -election coalitions should be more focused on citizens.

He mentioned some of the strongest races expected to take place in the runoff of 12 municipalities, singling out Mitrovica, Pristina and Prizren as the most prominent.

The big municipalities we have had in the previous coalition, we have been better organized and focused on people. It is now the same situation, and in Mitrovica we will have runoff between Vetevendosje and PDK. Pristina is the most interesting runoff race after two weeks, but Prizren will also be interesting,“Haliti said.

Asked about the possibility of a coalition between the LDK and the PDK in the runoff, leaving the Self-Determination scheme, Haliti said this is an issue to be reviewed by the party.

If the Democratic League enters the government, as Mr. Kurti, then I do not believe we will have to support either of the parties”He said.

Speaking about the PDK performance in the local elections, Haliti stressed that the party has the largest number of members of the representative assembly, but this should not be automatically considered a victory.

PDK has the largest number of members of the assembly in local government. But this is not necessarily a victory. It should not serve as a public justification in circumstances when we are not well with victory over the municipalities. We can say we have received more votes for assemblymen, but others say they have won more municipalities,“Haliti said.
