The warning against high temperatures already applies for Thursday, when temperatures will rise above 31 °C in most areas, and locally even above 34 °C in the Ústí and Central Bohemia regions.
“The heat wave will intensify in the coming days. On Friday afternoon temperatures will already exceed 34 °C in most of the territory of Bohemia and Moravia, on Saturday we expect temperatures exceeding 37 °C in the northwestern half of Bohemia and in the south of Moravia,” warn meteorologists.
On Saturday, the highest level of danger (red) will apply for the first time. The heat wave will probably peak on Sunday, when temperatures between 35 and 40 °C are expected. The red alert (temperatures above 37 °C) for this day applies to most of the Czech Republic except for the mountainous regions and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
“In the western half of Bohemia, especially in the lower Polabí and Poohří, it is not excluded that we will exceptionally experience even higher temperatures,” warns the ČHMÚ. It is so likely that the absolute Czech temperature record, which currently stands at 40.4 °C, could be broken.
“Extremely high temperatures will mean an extreme burden on the human body and a high risk of overheating and dehydration. At the same time, there may be complications, especially in the energy sector, transport, services and animal production,” warns ČHMÚ.
On Monday, the heat wave will end with a cold front, but before it, temperatures will rise above 31 °C in the eastern half of the territory, and above 34 °C in the hottest places.
Due to the warm and dry weather, the fire warning is still valid.
