“The vehicle caught fire. The passenger died in the accident,” South Bohemian Police spokesman Milan Bajcura confirmed to Novinkám.
Three rescue service crews and two helicopters responded to the scene. “The rescuers had two young men in their care, both of them suffered serious injuries and burns in the accident. One had a failure of vital functions. The rescuers immediately started emergency resuscitation. Unfortunately, despite tens of minutes of resuscitation care, the young man’s condition could not be stabilized, and the attending doctor had to declare his death,” said Petra Kafková, spokeswoman for the South Bohemian Medical Rescue Service.
The twenty-seven-year-old driver suffered second degree burns. and III. degrees. “The doctor also suspected a spinal injury. The rescuers provided intravenous access to the injured, administered sedatives and put him to artificial sleep. After acute treatment of burns, general immobilization and provision of the necessary pre-hospital emergency care, the patient was transported by the crew of Kryštof to the Faculty Hospital of Královské Vinohrady,” added Kafková.
The police are investigating the tragic accident. “The driver probably lost control at a higher speed and crashed into two tall trees behind the shoulder. The vehicle then split in half and caught fire,” said Milan Bajcura, spokesman for the South Bohemian Police, adding that witnesses to the accident helped severely injured men at the scene of the accident until rescuers arrived.
