The event took place on the Bory campus, specifically at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Economics. The patrols, including the emergency squad, came out here shortly around 4 p.m. According to university spokeswoman Andrea Čandová, one of the students called the emergency line and said he heard gunshots on the campus of ZČU.
Specialists from the Rapid Deployment Unit also arrived at the scene. A helicopter monitored the situation from the air. The dramatic moments were described to Novinka by one of the teachers who was in the laboratory with the students at the time.
“Suddenly, the policemen rushed and took us away. They searched all the premises and ran through the entire building. Only outside I learned that there should be a shooter inside. But I didn’t hear any shots or anything that resembled shooting,” said the man. At first, he had no idea if it was an exercise or an anonymous bomb report.
The evacuation involved roughly a thousand people. The police around the university completely stopped the operation of city public transport for several hours.
