“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is closed,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
“Congratulations to all! This opens the Strait of Hormuz fully and free of charge, and at the same time I order the immediate end of the United States naval blockade. Ships of the world, start the engines. Let the oil flow!” he declared.
Later, Trump added that the strait will be opened on Friday after the signing of the agreement. “Thanks to the opening of the strait after Friday’s signing of an agreement to remove mines, oil will once again flow on both sides – for this region and for the whole world!” Trump said.
The US military has already received instructions to lift the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz after the signing of the agreement, a military source confirmed to CNN.
At the same time, Trump told The New York Times that he is ready to resume attacks if Tehran does not agree to a final agreement on its nuclear program, or makes the United States the “guardian of the Middle East” in exchange for a fifth of the region’s income.
The war against Iran was launched at the end of February by the United States and Israel. Tehran responded by attacking neighboring states in the Persian Gulf, US bases in the region and eventually by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a key trade artery through which oil, natural gas and related products such as fertilizers flow.
