The Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo indicts 6 people for the barricades in the north

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against six persons suspected of involvement in activities aimed at obstructing the functioning of state institutions in the northern municipalities of the country during December 2022.

The defendants DM, DD, MR, NJ, NO and SV are accused of the criminal offenses “Association for unconstitutional activity, with the aim of attacking the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo” and “Obstruction of an official person in the performance of official duties”.

According to the indictment, during the period 10-29 December 2022, the accused acted in complicity to obstruct the state institutions in the exercise of authority and the implementation of the constitutional order. They allegedly organized the blocking of major roads using vehicles and heavy machinery, including gravel trucks, excavators, buses, ambulances and other vehicles.

The prosecution also points out that there are doubts that the group was prepared to forcefully oppose any intervention by the Kosovo Police to remove the barricades and restore freedom of movement in the area.

Meanwhile, the investigations against 11 other persons have been temporarily suspended, as they continue to be inaccessible to the justice bodies. The prosecution has announced that the legal procedures against the accused will continue according to the legislation in force, while for the elusive persons, the necessary actions will be taken to ensure their presence before the competent bodies.
