“I have just been informed by our armed forces that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly advanced Apache helicopters that was patrolling the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said in a post on Tuesday evening.
The American president reminded that both pilots survived. “However, the United States must respond to this attack,” he added.
Information about the helicopter was brought by the media and Trump on Tuesday night. At first, however, it was not known whether he crashed or was shot down. The New York Times newspaper wrote about the second possibility as a probable variant.
The United States uses the Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz for patrols, shooting down drones or attacking small boats.
The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28. There has been a ceasefire between the US and Iran since April 8. Since then, Trump has been regularly talking about the fact that the end of the conflict is near. The American station CNN reported on Tuesday that Trump has already said such a sentence at least 38 times, on social networks, in interviews or in public.
