The South Korean tax office wants to hire 9,500 workers due to tax evasion

The National Tax Service (NTS) said it has secured a budget of 213.4 billion won (almost three billion CZK) for the employment of workers who will carry out on-the-spot checks on 3.84 million people in arrears on non-tax payments to the state and 1.33 million tax debtors. The total amount of outstanding payments and taxes is estimated at 16 trillion won and 114 trillion won, respectively.

“Thanks to this budget, the Tax Administration will set up nationwide teams focused on solving cases of tax defaulters and will start extensive inspections in the field in July,” NTS said in a press release.

The tax service said it plans to provide social programs and other assistance to defaulters with financial problems. The office hopes that the project will also help job seekers who have recently faced difficulties in finding jobs due to the protracted conflict in the Middle East.
