The situation in front of the buildings of the central institutions in Pristina has escalated this evening after the Kosovo Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the protesters who had blocked the entrances to the Assembly of Kosovo.
Tensions increased when a group of protesters surrounded the main entrances of the Parliament building in order to prevent the MPs from leaving the building. In addition to the blockade, fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices were thrown in the direction of the Government building.
To deal with the situation and to guarantee the safety of the officials, the Kosovo Police intervened by using tear gas. At the same time, the security authorities deployed members of the Special Unit in front of the Government building, raising the level of security around the perimeter of the institutions.
As a result of the escalating tensions on the road, several garbage containers were burned on the “Agim Ramadani” road, causing smoke and obstacles in traffic. The Kosovo Police continues to stay on the ground to keep the situation under control and to prevent further incidents.
