Tensions are back in the Assembly of Kosovo, as PDK MPs have abandoned the plenary session after not voting for Vlora Çitak for the position of the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. The MPs of the Vetëvendosje Movement did not support Çitak’s candidacy, abstaining from the vote. The decision has caused the reaction of the PDK, which earlier voted in favor of Vetëvendosje’s candidate, Ardian Gola. The clash started in the discussion about the way of voting for the vice-presidents. Speaker Albulena Haxhiu proposed that the candidates be voted separately, a procedure that was supported by Vetëvendosje and some LDK MPs.
But the PDK opposed this voting method, claiming that the procedure change was being done to block the process. From its ranks, it was declared that the party would vote for Vetëvendosje candidates if the latter would guarantee the completion of the process of constitution of the Assembly.
Ardian Gola from Vetëvendosje, Vlora Çitaku from PDK and Kujtim Shala from LDK are competing for the positions of vice presidents. For the non-majority communities, Emilja Rexhepi and Slavko Simiq have been proposed.
After the VV deputies abstained from Çitak, the PDK deputies left, deepening the clash between the two political entities.
The constitutive session of the Assembly started with a minute of silence in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States of America.
