The Czech Republic is one of our greatest friends, announced Foreign Minister Saar during Macinka’s visit to Israel

“The Czech Republic is one of the biggest friends of Israel in the world. We have established a joint economic commission, which will be personally headed by me and the minister (Macinka),” he wrote on the X Saar network after they jointly honored the victims of the Holocaust at the Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem.

“We will move our strategic friendship and economic relations to a higher level,” the minister acknowledged the results of the meeting, at which, among other things, Macinka declared that he wanted to reopen the debate on moving the Czech embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

“If you ask me about the date, I won’t tell you,” he added. “It’s not just about me, I’m just the foreign minister,” said the head of the Černín Palace, adding that the government must decide.

According to Macinka, the move would not only be symbolic, the Israeli government, parliament and president are based in Jerusalem. The move was first discussed in 2017, when US President Donald Trump announced that the US would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved its embassy there in May 2018.
