The collision of oncoming express trains in Slovakia was caused by the driver, who ran a red light

At the press conference, Ráž clarified that the train driver did not respect the signal to stop in front of the tunnel. The Minister of Transport is now proposing a series of measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. There will be more frequent inspections of train drivers and so-called repulsive tracks in places where two tracks converge into one.

The mentioned collision of two oncoming expressways in mid-October resulted in 69 injuries, of which seven people were very seriously injured. The accident occurred at the point where the railway lines cross and turn into a single track.

At the beginning of November, another accident involving two trains near Bratislava left 79 injured. The train leaving Pezinok ran a red light and the express train from Košice braked the ETCS security system. Thanks to this system, the consequences of the accident were not more serious.

Ráž offered his resignation after these two railway accidents, but Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smér) rejected it. Ráž insists that the accidents were not a systemic failure.
