At the next meeting, the Government of Kosovo approved the Law on the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030”.
The approval of the draft law for the organization of the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” marks an important step for Kosovo in terms of sports development and international affirmation. The institutions of the country have qualified this initiative as a project of special public and national importance, which is expected to affect the economy, infrastructure and the image of the state in the international arena.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has assessed the importance of this draft law, emphasizing its basis and the standards it aims to guarantee:
“This draft law based on the agreement reached for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in the Republic of Kosovo “Prishtina” 2030 is a project of high public and national interest. It guarantees that the organization of this major event is done with full institutional responsibility with high standards of transparency, integrity and efficient management of public funds. Through this strategic investment, we not only strengthen the sports infrastructure and economic development, but put Kosovo on the international map as a country that organizes major events with dignity and professionalism. This is an investment in our youth in our sport and in the international image of the state. This is a proof of the belief in our potential and the vision for a Kosovo that competes and is decently represented on the international stage”Kurt said.
On the other hand, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Blerim Gashani, has provided details on the financial and organizational aspect of the project, clarifying the sources and structure of the financing:
“Through this law, the government will approve the use of public funds for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in the amount of at least 253 million euros. This draft law also regulates the competences of the Kosovo Olympic Community of the municipality of Pristina as well as other municipalities that will fulfill their obligations in relation to the organization of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030. In accordance with the financial support guaranteed by the government of the Republic of Kosovo in the candidacy document, the main source of funding for the organization of the Mediterranean Games will be the state budget of the Republic of Kosovo. We also consider that through this draft law, adequate mechanisms will be allowed for the organization of sports events, anticipating institutional cooperation and ensuring that all the necessary measures will be taken to make them as successful as possible.”Gashani said.
The approved draft law clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of state institutions, including the Kosovo Olympic Committee and the relevant municipalities, creating a complete legal framework for the organization of this major event. After the vote in the Assembly, the way is opened for the start of concrete preparations for the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030”, which aim to place Kosovo among the important organizers of international sports events./Kosovapress/
