Many citizens filled “Skënderbeu” square again on Sunday evening, marking the 19th consecutive rally against the conviction of four former KLA leaders by the Special Court in The Hague.
This time’s protest takes the form of an uninterrupted stand in front of the Kosovo Assembly building, on the eve of the parliamentary decision-making on the legal changes related to the Specialized Chambers.
The organizer of the “Not in my name!” initiative, Çlirim Haziri, called on the gathered crowd to stay in the square all night until Monday morning, to closely accompany the start of the parliamentary session. The protesters describe the judgment of The Hague as unjust and demand from the legislators immediate intervention in the existing legal framework.
Also, on Monday, it is expected to meet at 8 o’clock in the morning. The Committee for Legislation will meet to review the proposed draft law to supplement and amend the Law on Specialized Chambers, while the Assembly of Kosovo will hold a plenary session, where the review of this draft law is the main point of the agenda.
The legal initiative initiated by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) comes after the Government of Kosovo assessed a few days ago that there is no legal obstacle to the proceeding of these state changes, paving the way for today’s parliamentary confrontation.
