The Assembly of Kosovo is constituted, where this Friday has elected Nenad Rasic as vice president from the Serbian community, concluding an institutional stalemate that had lasted for 8 months.
Rasic was the only candidate left in the race, as in previous voting none of the nine Serbian List candidates managed to receive the necessary support from MPs. Candidates who did not pass voting include MPs Igor Simic, Srdjan Popovic, Stefan Kovacevic, Branislav Nikolic, Miljana Nikolic, Verica Garaniq, Ljiljana Stefanovic, Zlatan Elek and Slavko Simic.
Speaker of Parliament, Dimal Basha, explained that there was no need to throw a lot for elections, as Rasic remained the only candidate from the Serbian community and, according to the regulation, would be voted by the Assembly.
Rasic was not proposed by the Serbian List, which has repeatedly opposed its representation as part of the Serbian community in institutions. However, in the absence of another candidacy accepted by the Assembly, he was involved in the vote and elected.
Serbian MP Nenad Rasic has been introduced as a candidate for vice -president of the Assembly without a direct proposal from the representative of the Serbian Committee.
Rashiqi received 71 votes in favor, 9 against, and 24 abstentions. The MPs of the Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo voted in favor. Meanwhile, MPs from the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo abstained, while the Serbian List voted against his election.
The MP of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Hykmete Bajrami, said the vote on Nenad Rasic relates to the last judgment of the Constitutional Court.
“We voted for Nenad Rasic because the last judgment of the Constitutional Court gave an interpretation that we had not provided. According to what we understood, he has the right to be elected vice president by the Serbian community,” Bajrami said.
This development comes after the decision of the Constitutional Court, which gave the Assembly 12 days to complete its constitution, following the elections held months ago. With the election of Rashiq, the process of constitution of the Assembly concludes, as the President and other vice presidents were earlier.
