The fire broke out on Tuesday at around 20:45 CET and firefighters, police and paramedics went to the scene. After about an hour, the firemen extinguished the fire, the Reuters agency quotes local media.
“Unfortunately… ten residents died and about twenty were injured,” the facility, which AFP describes as a nursing home, said in a statement. The Bosnian media or the Reuters and AP agencies refer to it as a home for senior citizens.
According to information from the local medical facility, some people inhaled smoke during the fire and were poisoned by carbon monoxide.
The Bosnian server Dnevni avaz also reports on the ten dead, which published footage from the scene. They show a multi-story building and how flames are shooting from one of the higher floors, while smoke is billowing from it in other shots. In another video, rescuers can be seen carrying the injured out of the building.
Tuzla is located in the northeast of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
