“Staying in the village is increasingly dangerous! Save yourself and your loved ones. Evacuate the area,” the local military administration wrote in the post.
The authorities further stated that the number of damaged houses that are the target of the Russian occupiers is increasing every day. “Yesterday evening (Saturday) the enemy attacked the eastern part of the city. The shelling took place at 23:50 (22:50 CET) and resulted in a house fire. There were no casualties,” the post reads.
The Ukrainian army has previously admitted that the Russian army destroyed or occupied several Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the city in recent days.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated in its regular daily report on Saturday evening that the Russians advanced south of Pokrovsk near the village of Ševchenko, which is only about eight kilometers from the city. They also advanced in the villages of Novotroitske, Mykolajivka or Dačenske.
Pokrovsk is a Ukrainian strategic city in the Donetsk region. The Russian army has been trying to conquer it for a long time, in the last week it approached it first to six kilometers and then to one and a half kilometers, said pro-Russian blogger Jurij Podoljak, quoted by Reuters.
If the city were to fall, it would mean one of the biggest losses for Ukraine this year, as it functions as an important logistics center for the Ukrainian armed forces.
