Protests by Albanian students in Skopje, the American Congressman meets with their representatives and with the DUI

Representatives of the Albanian Student Movement in North Macedonia held an official meeting with the American Congressman Keith Self, where the latest political developments and respect for the rights of Albanians in that country were at the center of the discussion. Through a public announcement, one of the leaders of this movement, Mevlan Ademi, made it known that during the meeting with the senior American official, he got to know the concerns of the students regarding the recent concerns, mainly the obstacles to the use of the Albanian language.

During the meeting, we had the opportunity to directly present our concerns regarding the attempts to violate the constitutional and legal rights, acquired with much sacrifice during these 20 years through the Ohrid Agreement. We clearly emphasized that the students will not accept going back on issues that affect equality, dignity, rights and our national identity”. Adam declared.

The Albanian Student Movement in North Macedonia has held several protests demanding the use of the Albanian language in the jurisprudence exams. Meanwhile, Republican congressman Keith Self also met with leaders of the Albanian opposition party DUI, including the president Ali Ahmeti and his ally Ziadin Sela.

“We discussed the political developments in North Macedonia, the challenges related to preserving the multi-ethnic character of the state and the need to fully respect the Ohrid Agreement as a guarantee of peace, stability and Euro-Atlantic orientation of the country”said Ahmeti. A day ago, the American congressmen stayed in Pristina.

Their visit to Kosovo came after meetings in Bosnia and Serbia, where the two congressmen held talks with Albanian representatives in the Presheva Valley.
