President Osmani at the European Forum: Rapid NATO membership, strategic priority for Kosovo

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, while participating in the European Forum held in Austria, emphasized the urgent need for Kosovo’s NATO membership as one of the country’s main strategic advantages.

In discussions focused on Kosovo’s steps towards the future and geopolitical developments in the region, Osmani highlighted the critical role of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance for Kosovo’s security and the stability of the Western Balkans.

NATO membership is essential for Kosovo. The more Western Balkan territories are part of this alliance, the safer they will be”Osmani said. She added that Kosovo can make a significant contribution to NATO, not only through human resources, but also through defense skills. The president underlined that Kosovo is working intensively to strengthen its military capacities, including modernizing armaments and training of soldiers.

We are investing a lot in our defense industry and we have people capable of contributing to common security. For a country like Kosovo, which is still facing security challenges, it is vital to educate the younger generation that freedom and democracy are never guaranteed and require constant efforts, ” Osman said.

Reflecting on the history of Kosovo, the president recalled the support of NATO allies during the recent war in the country, which helped stop genocide.

She stressed that NATO integration will not only strengthen Kosovo’s security, but will also contribute to the region’s peace and stability.

Osman reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to meet the standards needed for membership, describing this process as a crucial step for the future of the country and the Western Balkans.
