The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, today received the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi.
The meeting focused on the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the problems of Albanians in North Macedonia, their rights with a focus on the Albanian language, fair and adequate representation in institutions and the need to unite the Albanian political factor when it comes to defending the issues related to the protection of their rights.
For President Begaj: “The Law on Adequate Representation and the Ohrid Agreement are not for discussion, they are for implementation!”
President Begaj asked for Speaker Gashi’s engagement in resolving the demands of Law students to take the exam in the Albanian language.
“I wish that the students who are protesting for the examination in the Albanian language will be allowed this right and that this mechanism will be regulated in a legal and fair way”, said President Begaj.
“Albanians are a state-forming factor in the Republic of North Macedonia. In a multi-ethnic state, coexistence and understanding between ethnic groups are very important. The institutional guarantee with a binding legal framework of acquired rights and not a product of random balances is one more guarantee for the real advancement of the Republic of North Macedonia towards the integration processes in the EU”, – emphasized the Head of State.
Empowerment of the Albanian Diaspora, which for President Begaj is the “power and heart of the nation”, was also one of the topics discussed at the meeting.
