The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, during her stay in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, has emphasized the crucial role of the United States of America in supporting Kosovo’s peace, independence and sovereignty.
In an interview with Fox News, Osman singled out US President Donald Trump’s contribution to prevent Serbia’s efforts to escalate tensions in May this year, describing him as a leader who speaks with “clarity, strength and conviction”.
“Today we exist as a free and sovereign nation, because the United States did not stand idly by. They supported us in the most difficult moments and believed in our right to freedom,” Osmani said, recalling the intervention of US soldiers in 1999 to save the lives of Kosovo citizens during the period of genocide carried out by Serbia.
She added that over 97% of Kosovo citizens maintain a strong pro-American stance, maintaining a close alliance with the US, which has begun since that critical period.
President Osmani spoke about the constant challenges from Serbia, citing the act of aggression in Banjska, Zvecan in September 2023, where a Serbian armed group attacked the Kosovo Police, and recent attempts to destabilize in May 2025.
She praised the role of the US administration and NATO allies in preventing these tensions. “We have had a number of tension explosions in the last two years.
In September 2023, there was an act of aggression from Serbia against the Republic of Kosovo. We were able to prevent this with the support of our NATO allies.
However, there is a constant threat coming from Serbia. Last May there was another attempt to explode tensions, and this administration has done a wonderful job to prevent their escalation, ”Osmani said.
She singled out President Trump’s contribution, describing her as a leader who communicates clear messages of peace through force. “As he climbs to the United Nations today, we expect a strong message of peace through the strength he has given in our part of Europe, because this is the only message that the autocrats and crazy leaders around the world understand and cause suffering,” Osmani said.
President Osmani stressed that US support has enabled younger generations in Kosovo to grow without fear of war and violence.
“We are a place where every generation in front of our children has had to go through a war. Our grandparents and our parents went through a war of genocide. Now our children can go to bed without the noise of firearms and the fear that we have had to grow up as a child of war. And that is thanks to the American leadership,“She declared, underlining the transformational influence of the Alliance with the US.
