Osman hosts France’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, discussing regional security

Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, received today France’s special envoy to the Western Balkans, Ambassador Rene Troccaz, with whom he discussed political developments in Kosovo and regional security issues.

According to the Presidency announcement, the meeting focused on Kosovo’s strategic orientation towards the European Union and NATO integration, as well as the commitment to membership in the Council of Europe.

Osmani emphasized that the reforms, the rule of law and the fulfillment of European standards remain the main priorities of Kosovo.

She mentioned the election of the Speaker of Parliament and the majority of vice presidents as important steps for the political stability and democratic functioning of institutions.

Regarding the opening of the new bridge over the Ibar River and the construction of an additional bridge, Osman expressed its support, assessing the role of bridges in integrating and bringing citizens through facilitating movement and cooperation.

She recalled that the closure of the main bridge in Mitrovica in 1999 was not made for security reasons, but because of harmful political decisions, and that it is regretful that, even after 10 years from the Brussels agreement to open it, the bridge remains closed.

The president emphasized that tensions in northern Kosovo are not caused by bridges, but by criminal and destabilizing activity of Serbia -funded illegal structures, such as those associated with Milan Radojcic.

It is these structures that create fear and tension, not the infrastructure that aims to unite communities, ” she stated.

Commenting on the European Union’s restrictive measures against Kosovo, Osmani described them unfair, arguing that they harm citizens, democratic processes and the development of the country, and violate the credibility of EU-facilitated dialogue.

In conclusion, President reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to being a reliable partner in promoting peace, stability and regional cooperation, expressing his willingness to continue cooperation with international partners.
