On Tuesday evening, just before the expiration of the ultimatum, there were conflicting reports about possible negotiations between the US and Iran. While The Wall Street Journal wrote that Tehran has stopped direct negotiations with Washington and communicates only through intermediaries, the website Axios wrote that the negotiations have progressed in recent hours and that a possible ceasefire of several weeks or the possibility of a personal meeting between the delegations of Iran and the US are also being discussed.
The truce was finally announced by Donald Trump at half past one Central European time. It was soon confirmed by Iran’s Supreme Council of National Security, which called the negotiated ceasefire a victory.
