Oklahoma executed the killer of a ten-year-old girl on his birthday

According to the CBS News server, it was the twenty-fifth and last execution of the death penalty in the USA this year. Underwood, a former grocery store employee, was executed by injection at the state prison in McAlester after an 18-year stint on death row.

Chained to the bed in the death chamber, the killer apologized to the girl’s family and his relatives for everything he had done. “”The decision to execute me on my birthday and six days before Christmas was unnecessarily cruel to my family. And I am very sorry for what I have done. I wish I could take that back,” said Underwood, who ordered a chicken steak with mashed potatoes, a cheeseburger and fries as his last meal.

The offender’s defense attorneys tried to avert the execution of the sentence and submitted a request for clemency, stating that their client suffers from serious mental disorders, including autism. His mother, with tears in her eyes, also begged the relevant commission to waive the execution. But all members rejected the request.

“Underwood is dangerous because he is smart, calculating and driven by deviant sexual desires that are rooted in his desire to harm others,” argued the prosecutor’s office in its statement.

Underwood lived next door to the victim’s family. He lured the girl to his apartment, where he brutally beat her with a kitchen board, strangled her and then raped her. In the bathtub, he almost severed the girl’s head, but finally gave up his intention to eat the child.

Soon after the girl’s disappearance, detectives tracked down the killer, mainly by asking neighbors. During the confrontation, Underwood confessed without hesitation.

“Go ahead and arrest me. It’s in there. I cut her up,” he told the police at the time, pointing towards his bedroom. There, the victim was hidden in a plastic container.

Another execution took place in the US on Wednesday. Joseph Corcoran, a four-time murderer who shot his brother, his sister’s fiance and his two friends in 1997, received a lethal injection in the state of Indiana. Behind the bloody act was a dispute over the sister’s upcoming wedding. If the young woman married, Corcoran would have to move out of the house they shared.
