Not only prisoners, but also defendants. Putin will send thousands more people to war

According to the Meduza portal, the first law signed by Putin makes it possible to enter into military service contracts with defendants whose cases are heard by the court of first instance during mobilization or war.

On the basis of the second law, the defendants can be released from criminal liability if they enter military service on the basis of mobilization or a contract signed with the Ministry of Defense.

Russian soldiers are shelling Ukrainian positions from the Donetsk region.

Until now, only prisoners were recruited in Russia for the war against Ukraine. Initially, they were pardoned after six months of war, later, after the same period, their only unconditional sentence was changed to a conditional one.

According to expectations, 20,000 of the approximately 60,000 defendants should “sign up” for the war. This represents roughly one hundred people from each Russian detention prison, of which there are 210. According to the portal, criminal investigators and investigators are also to be involved in the recruitment of defendants.

War in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law in May that allows people convicted of minor crimes to join the armed forces and fight against the Russians.

Ukrainian law limits the possibilities for parole of prisoners so that they can serve in the army. For example, it prohibits mobilizing those convicted of serious crimes, such as murder or rape, or crimes against national security. No one may have more than three years left until the end of their sentence.
