Montenegrin Foreign Minister Filip Ivanovic said that bilateral relations with Türkiye are excellent, not only political but also friendly for both nations.
Minister Ivanovic answered the questions of an AA correspondent at the 3rd Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) 2024 held at the NEST Congress Center in the Belek Tourism Region, where Anadolu Agency (AA) is the “Global Communications Partner”.
Ivanovic said that “ADF is an excellent opportunity for many communities such as diplomats, politicians, activists, academics.”
Describing the bilateral relations between Montenegro and Türkiye as excellent, Ivanovic said, “These relations are not only political or inter-state. I can say that we also have friendly relations between peoples.”
Ivanovic underlined that they attach great importance to relations with Turkey and said, “We have excellent cooperation in culture, tourism and many other areas. We want to expand this cooperation and deepen our ties even further.”
Minister Ivanovic expressed his great pleasure in the opening of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro, which aims to further develop economic and commercial ties with Türkiye.
“Montenegro defends the two-state solution”
Stating that Turkey knows the Western Balkans very well, Ivanovic drew attention to the importance of the diplomatic and mediation efforts it has made to ensure the stability, prosperity and security of the region.
“Turkey’s very positive and friendly approach towards different countries in the Western Balkans is something we value very much,” Ivanovic said.
Ivanovic also evaluated Israel’s attacks on Gaza and said that the solution to the problem should be within the framework of international law.
Ivanovic noted that many innocent civilians have been killed and suffered since October 7, and emphasized that this suffering must end.
Ivanovic, who said that Montenegro advocates a two-state solution, said: “What we want to see in the end is for the conflict, the suffering and all that to end, for the region to be rebuilt and for people to be given a chance to live in peace and prosperity.”
