Meteorologists drew attention to the temperature paradox of New Year’s Eve

The range of temperatures will be relatively wide during New Year’s Eve. Temperatures should be around -6 °C in places with clear skies and no wind, or weak wind. In areas with stronger wind even around 4 °C.

“However, in places with stronger wind, it can paradoxically feel colder at positive temperatures than in places with no wind and negative temperatures,” pointed out the meteorologists.

Feeling temperatures will thus vary greatly and in some places may drop to -10 °C or even lower.

On Tuesday, it was coldest in Kvilda. According to Eva Houbová from the České Budějovice branch of ČHMÚ, the temperature dropped to -17.5 °C there in the morning, ČTK reported.

On Wednesday, on New Year’s Day, it should be clear to partly clear, with fog or low clouds in the southeast. During the day, frontal clouds will increase from the northwest.

In recent days, the ČHMÚ has repeatedly warned against the formation of frost, or ice, which could form on the roads. Icing in places with weaker wind may initially form even in the middle.
