Let’s abandon the sentiment towards the crown, if it would hinder development, declared Pavel

Pavel has already expressed himself in favor of the adoption of the common European currency, which the Czech Republic committed to by joining the EU. Among other things, he mentioned it in one of his New Year’s speeches.

“The very fact that our economy is strongly linked to the euro zone should lead us to say that it is clearly better to be at the table where decisions are made in such a case than to sit behind the door and then deal with these decisions,” said the president.

The government of ANO, SPD and Motorists is not preparing itself for the adoption of the euro and the issue is not a priority for it. At the same time, the foreign trade of most companies is most often carried out in euros, and the countries that pay in euros are our biggest business partners. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) recently criticized the CNB’s higher interest rates compared to the European Central Bank.

Should the Czech Republic stay with the crown instead of accepting the euro, even at the cost of hindering development?

A total of 41639 readers voted.

Czechs are rather skeptical about the adoption of the euro, even under the influence of some politicians who have long presented the Czech crown as an almost part of the national identity. At the same time, they can experience the benefits of the common currency when traveling in Europe, where 21 countries already use the euro.

Flowing hundreds of billions

At the conference, the President also spoke about areas that, according to him, fundamentally develop the domestic economy. He mentioned clean technologies such as electric cars or electric trains, research in the field of nanotechnology, or software development and the field of cyber security.

Pavel also spoke about the often presented outflow of hundreds of billions of crowns drawn by foreign owners of some domestic companies. He mentioned that the argument about the need to raise hundreds of billions is used by the current Speaker of the House, Tomio Okamura (SPD).

“The only way we could do it is to steal those billions,” the president declared. “The only way out of this is to strengthen our own capital with the fact that the scales will balance,” he added, pointing to how to get dividends from abroad to the Czech Republic.
