LDK nominates Abdixik as candidate for prime minister in the December 28 elections

The Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo has nominated the chairman of the party, Lumir Abdixik, as a candidate for prime minister in the extraordinary elections that will be held on December 28.

The LDK will compete alone in the December 28 elections, but will leave space in the list for other individuals and parties, including Fatmir Limaj’s Social Democratic Initiative, as well as small parties, but talks with these entities will take place in the coming days.

“Although I opened the discussion, it didn’t last long. It was a short discussion. The leadership of the LDK considers that as long as there is a party leader, there is no need to have another candidate for prime minister, that’s why I am nominated. The LDK will make sure that a part of its list is opened to other parties, including Limaj with its deputies. Talks will be held on this issue in the coming days, but let’s say that we are ready. As we are also ready for the other parties, which are the Democratic Party, the Pacolli Alliance. So, we are open to parties and individuals. So, individuals who want to compete on the LDK list,” Abdixiku said during a media conference.

Abdixhik called on the parties to unite, stressing the need for a result that avoids the political blockade created after the last parliamentary elections.

“I call for unity. This new moment puts the LDK in a position beyond its own base. Let’s work so that there is not the same result that then sends to the blockade”, he said.

In the February 9 elections, LDK came third with 18.27% of the votes, while Vetëvendosje won 42.30%, but failed to form the government, which led to the announcement of new elections.
