The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, in a meeting, one day after the announcement of the first instance judgment by the Specialized Chambers in The Hague against the former leaders of the KLA.
In the meeting, Kurti and Hamza discussed the judgment and how to find the right legal ways to correct the decision of The Hague.
Kurti described the judgment as unfair and said that it should be changed in the appeal procedure.
After the meeting, both have committed to regular and direct communication on issues related to public, state and national interest.
“Assessing the judgment as unfair, serious and with far-reaching consequences, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that it should be positively changed at the appeal level. Kurti and Hamza shared their thoughts and impressions and discussed what would be the paths and ways to go forward to correct yesterday’s decision. Prime Minister Kurti and President Hamza pledged for regular and direct communication on issues of public, state and national interest,” the announcement of the Prime Minister of Kosovo states.
During the Kurti-Hamza meeting, the position was repeated that the liberation war of Kosovo was part of the effort for freedom and independence, describing the KLA as an organizational response to Slobodan Milosevic’s regime.
“The resistance of our people and the liberation war, in addition to rights, were necessary on the way to freedom and independence. The Kosovo Liberation Army was the Albanians’ organizational response to an oppressive state regime like that of Milosevic’s Yugoslavia, which has documented crimes: from systematic repression to apartheid, from the denial of basic human and civil rights to ethnic cleansing and genocide,” the announcement says.
