The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora in Kosovo has called on its citizens to avoid traveling through the territory of Serbia. This reaction comes after the arrest of Albanian citizen from Kosovo after entering Serbian territory.
The Kosovo Foreign Ministry has called on internationals to react to those who call them repressive practice of Serbian authorities which, according to the Ministry, run counter to the fundamental principles of international law.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora calls on all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to avoid travel through the territory of Serbia, in order to guarantee their security and well -being. The MFA also underlines the urgent need for response from the international community to repressive practices of Serbian authorities, which contradict the fundamental principles of international law and international human rights conventions”, Reads the ministry’s announcement.
The day before, Kosovo Albanian citizen Hazir Haziri was arrested by Serbian authorities at the Merdare border crossing after entering Serbian territory.
Kosovo’s Foreign Ministry says it has informed the EU delegation in Serbia, including the diplomatic representatives of the QUINT countries.
“The Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo has addressed an official request to the Serbian Government authorities to confirm the arrest of Mr. Haziri and to clarify the legal reasons for his detention. If against Mr. Haziri is imposed a detention on detention and the criminal procedure is initiated, the Liaison Office of the Republic of Kosovo in Serbia will apply for an official visit to the Prohibition Center ”reads the MFA’s announcement.
