Kalemaj: Kurti played to gain time, he killed several birds with one stone

According to Kalemaj, Kurti has faced an American administration of Donald Trump, with which he would have an extremely difficult time, especially in the context of possible appointments like that of Richard Grenelli. Under these conditions, he has chosen a deliberate strategy.

“Kurti has been playing by gaining time and killing some birds with a stone,Kalemaj declared.

He explained that the lack of a formal government decreed for a long period – being in the government, but also not being formally – has enabled Kurti to buy time and avoid a direct confrontation with a Trump administration that could be penalizing not only for him, but also for Kosovo.

Regarding the subject of the Special Court, Kalemaj emphasized that it cannot be undone by internal debates or parliamentary votes.

“Only the EU can undo it,” he said, referring to the Dick Marty report and the geopolitical backdrop. According to him, in the absence of this court, a mechanism would be created through the UN, where China, Russia and other countries would have influence, producing an even more punitive body.

Kalemaj rejected the idea that the former leaders of the KLA, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, have acted with naivety or political myopia.

“They showed statesmanship and shouldered the risk. I think history will reward them,” emphasized the analyst.

He pointed out that foreign policy should always be seen in the context of domestic politics and electoral cycles, citing the examples of Aleksandar Vučić in Serbia and Milorad Dodik in Republika Srpska. Even in Kosovo, Kalemaj emphasized, there are parties within the PDK and the LDK that make their calculations regarding the fate of the former war commanders, while Kurti has also made his calculations.

According to him, despite the criticism, Kurti’s strategy has been clear from day one and focused on buying time in a complicated geopolitical context.
