The tragedy took place on a farm in the village of Castrila in the province of Granada in the very south of Spain and was reported by the website El Economista. The deer entered the area from the nearby Sierra de Castril Natural Park.
The mayor of the village, Miguel Pérez, said that deer have multiplied in the park in recent years and that the attack happened during the rut, when wild animals move a lot and are more aggressive.
The pensioner (91) did not survive the deer attack, his eighty-four-year-old wife was injured and together with her son (61) ended up in a hospital in the town of Baza, south of Castril. The woman is there for observation and waiting to be transported to the capital of the province, a hundred kilometers away in Granada. The son did not suffer any injuries and has already been released from the hospital. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the police.
