In flooded Bohumín, locals fought with scavengers over discarded items

“Two men arrived in a vehicle in the flood-affected district of Pudlov and picked some of the things that the owners had brought out in front of the heated houses. This was noticed by local citizens, who first warned the pair of men not to do so,” described police spokeswoman Pavla Jiroušková.

The so-called but scavengers continued to look for something in the piles that could be used or monetized. “There was a physical conflict with two other local men. One person suffered a minor injury and was treated in the hospital,” she added, adding that the case is being investigated by Karvina crime investigators.

While the self-proclaimed defenders of Pudlov are threatened with criminal prosecution, the couple who arrived in Bohumín due to flood-damaged equipment will probably receive a hefty fine. She was moving in the flood-affected area, despite the ban issued by the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region. She thus committed an offence.

“We encourage citizens to contact the police immediately, for example on line 158, in order to prevent a possible conflict, which may turn into a physical attack. In all flood-affected areas, the performance of the service is increased and the police can be at the scene of the incident within a very short time after notification “, police spokeswoman Jiroušková appealed to the public.
