In Canada, Czech died while skiing, falling into a crevasse in a glacier

Police officers and rescuers went to Jasper National Park on the Athabasca Glacier last week on Tuesday. They were called there by two snowboarders whose friend fell into a deep crevasse in the glacier, the townandcountrytoday website recalled.

“Members of the Canadian Mounted Police discovered that the patient died and rescuers could not reach him,” said police spokesman Matthew Howell, adding that the body of the Czech citizen, who lived in the city of Revelstoke in the province of British Columbia, was picked up the next day.

The edge of the Athabasca glacier, which is part of the vast Columbia Icefield, can be easily reached on foot, but entering the glacier itself is not recommended without appropriate equipment, the website pointed out. Hidden crevasses on the glacier have claimed the lives of many unprepared tourists over the years.
