Accidents were reported mainly from the Karlovy Vary and Pilsen regions. It started snowing in the Ústí Region during the morning and ice was forming there as well.
“Since this morning, or rather since 07:30, we have recorded approximately 20 traffic accidents, especially in Sokolovska and Chebska. In most cases, the main cause is mainly icy roads,” said Karlovy Vary police spokesman Jakub Kopřiva.

In the Plzeň Region, slippery roads were reported especially in Tachovská and Domažlicka.
“On the 2nd class road between Svata Kateřina and Přimda, a bus carrying children to school in Přimda went partially off the road,” the regional fire department reported. There were no injuries in the accident and the children were taken to school by their parents and some of them by volunteer firefighters.
Firefighters also reported other accidents in the area, which, however, mostly resulted in no injuries.
“The glacier is in places, but it appears all over the district. We have all the spreaders outside,” Daniel Žižka, dispatcher of the Road Administration and Maintenance of the Pilsen Region, told ČTK. According to him, it started in the Tachovsk region and will proceed further to Pilsen.
Although according to the original warning, the iceberg was not supposed to hit South Moravia until after noon, small freezing drizzle complicated the situation in the region from the early hours of the morning. South Moravian rescuers had their hands full.
“We treat patients in Brno, Znojmo and Břeclav. Most of the time, after falling, they injure their hands and feet, but also their back or head. Head injuries can be serious, so be very careful. You can get injured, for example, just on a short trip with your dog or when you go to throw out the garbage. Stairs are particularly dangerous, and even the floor on the terrace or balcony can slide,” they wrote on the Facebook social network.
Vysočina also reported problems, where drivability is worsened by ice falling from trees. The roads are therefore slippery in places. Branches and trees also fall due to frost. A tree fell on a truck near the village of Stáj in Jihlavska. It damaged the semi-trailer and the cabin, but no one was injured.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) warned against the formation of ice, according to which freezing precipitation will gradually move further east, and there is a risk of ice formation in the whole of Bohemia and later during the day and in the afternoon also in the western regions of Moravia.
Ice is formed by the freezing of supercooled droplets of drizzle, raindrops on objects whose temperature is slightly below 0 degrees Celsius.
