Hezbollah shelled Israeli positions for the first time since the conclusion of the ceasefire. Israel fired back

Practically since its conclusion, both sides have been accused of violating the terms of the truce, and both defend themselves with self-defense. For example, Israeli tanks shelled six border areas the day after the ceasefire was established, but they also officially did so in response to Hezbollah’s attempts to return to southern Lebanon, The Jerusalem Post reports.

In response to Monday’s mortar attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this is a serious violation of the ceasefire, to which Israel will respond with force. The Lebanese state media subsequently reported further Israeli strikes in the south of the country, which were to claim nine victims.

However, the ceasefire remains in force. According to the agreement, the Israeli army must withdraw from Lebanon by the end of January. However, it is not specified when it must start downloading.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Barri, an ally of Hezbollah and Beirut’s chief negotiator in the ceasefire talks, said on Monday that Lebanon had so far recorded 54 ceasefire violations by Israel.

However, the Israeli government already warned at the time of the truce that the army would, if necessary, enforce the terms of the truce by force and that it would in particular prevent the return of Hezbollah members to the border areas in southern Lebanon and also the smuggling of weapons from Syria.
