The Kosovo police have given details about the arrest of Fehim Sali, a citizen of Kosovo, at the border point in Merdare, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “espionage”.
The arrest was made within a joint operation of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, the Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the information made public, Sali is suspected to have cooperated with the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA) for a long time and to have had contact with its official, Zhelimir Matovic.
The suspect worked as a teacher at the Serbian school “9 Maji” in Rapçë, Dragash, while earlier he was engaged in the Consultative Council for Communities near the Office of the President of Kosovo.
He is also suspected of brokering Serbian properties and documents, as well as gathering votes for supporters of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
After the arrest in Merdare, the investigators of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes implemented the control order at the residence of the suspect in Dragash.
According to the Kosovo Police, 39,500 euros in cash, 500 dinars, four mobile phones and various documents considered relevant to the case were seized during the raid.
By decision of the Special Prosecution, the suspect was detained for 48 hours. Within the legal deadline, the Special Prosecutor’s Office is expected to submit a request to the Basic Court in Pristina for determining the measure of detention against him.
