Last October, the Klatovsk district court sent Harant to prison for three years for an extremely brutal attack. The verdict was confirmed by the regional court on Monday. “It was really a raw and merciless attack against a loved one. Such conduct is highly socially dangerous, and no other than unconditional punishment can be imposed for it,” said František Pokorný, chairman of the appeals panel.
In justifying the verdict, the court also drew attention to a significant problem with alcohol, which is a trigger for the defendant’s negative behavior. “He did not take any steps to get rid of this susceptibility. The injured party herself stated that the assault in question was not isolated and always occurred during the consumption of alcohol,” added Pokorný.

According to the indictment, the incident happened on December 2. At first, Harant started cursing the girl vulgarly and then knocked her to the ground. “Then he grabbed the victim by the hair and dragged her face down the floor full of fragments into the bedroom. There he started beating her in the head with his fists and kicking her in the body. When the girl partially came to her senses, he knelt on her and began to strangle her and at the same time burn her stomach with a cigarette,” described the dramatic moments of the prosecutor Marcela Šímová.
According to her, the injured party lost consciousness at times, to which the defendant responded by throwing cold water on her to revive her. The woman finally managed to escape from the apartment and call her brother for help, who took her to the hospital, where she spent several days.
Harant admitted his guilt before the court and regretted it. “Absence of moral values is not a disease and cannot be cured,” experts said about him.
The victim herself said today during the appeal proceedings that, considering what her friend did to her, the sentence seems too high. “We are still together. I regularly visit him in detention,” she said.
